On the occasion of this closing event the subject of the exhibition, the painting ‘Dredge’, will hang opposite a slightly earlier large scale work depicting the view from the opposite side of the Clyde. The two paintings have not been together before. Both paintings are exceptional for James in terms of their size and subject matter they perfectly exemplify his interest in painting’s complex relationship with time.
